Throttle Actuation Potentiometer Signal 2 Range

2002-2005 Audi A4 3.0L V6

High SeverityPowertrain

Description

The ECU detected that the second throttle position potentiometer signal is outside its expected voltage range. VW/Audi throttle bodies use dual potentiometers for redundancy and safety.

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light
  • Reduced power mode
  • Throttle response erratic
  • Engine may idle only

Common Causes

  • Faulty throttle body unit
  • Damaged wiring to throttle position sensor 2
  • Corroded connector
  • Throttle body contamination affecting sensor
  • ECU fault

Diagnostic Steps

  1. Read throttle position sensor 1 and 2 values with scan tool
  2. Check for proper signal tracking between both sensors
  3. Inspect throttle body connector
  4. Test wiring continuity for sensor 2
  5. Clean throttle body and retest

Repair Notes

Replace the throttle body assembly if the internal potentiometer has failed.
