TP Sensor Intermittent

2000-2003 Ford Excursion 7.3L V8 Power Stroke Diesel

Moderate SeverityPowertrain

Description

The Throttle Position sensor signal is intermittent. The PCM detects signal dropouts or erratic voltage changes from the TP sensor.

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light
  • Intermittent stumble
  • Surging
  • Erratic idle
  • Stalling

Common Causes

  • Worn TP sensor with dead spots
  • Loose TP sensor connector
  • Damaged wiring
  • Corroded connector pins

Diagnostic Steps

  1. Monitor TP sensor voltage while slowly opening throttle β€” look for dropouts
  2. Wiggle test connector while monitoring
  3. Inspect connector pins
  4. Test wiring continuity

Repair Notes

Replace TP sensor if it has dead spots. Repair wiring or connector.
