Fuel Pump Control Out of Range
2000-2003 Ford Excursion 7.3L V8 Power Stroke Diesel
Description
The FPDM has detected an invalid or missing fuel pump circuit signal from the PCM. The FPDM reports this failure to the PCM, which then sets the DTC. The fuel pump may operate erratically or not at all.
Symptoms
- Check Engine Light
- Engine stalling
- Poor performance
- Intermittent power loss
- Hard starting
Common Causes
- Open FP circuit between PCM and FPDM
- Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system concern
- Damaged FPDM
- Damaged PCM
- Wiring issue in FP circuit
Diagnostic Steps
- Check for ETC DTCs (P2105) β diagnose ETC issues first
- Test FP circuit between PCM and FPDM for continuity
- Inspect wiring for damage or chafing
- Test FPDM operation
- Check PCM output signal
Repair Notes
Diagnose ETC issues first if present. Repair FP circuit wiring. Replace FPDM if faulty.
